Steven Prevosto: Author of-

Nina’s Salvation for Joey & The Defending Guns

Inside of us grows a unique world waiting to be discovered and shared with other worlds!

My 4 stars and 5 stars reviews for my two novels

"The wind rushing wildly through the trees and over the land is like the spirit of man driving him to feel fulfilled in his pursuits."

In 1878, bad guys are hired by Douglas Pitt, whose goal is to take land surrounding Kansas City for a large cattle ranch. The hirelings include the town's sheriff and deputy, who obey Pitt's orders at whatever cost. Most of the other hirelings are already on wanted posters. The main good guy is Anthony Augustus Peters, a traveling actor from New York and quick-shot gun aficionado. He meets Fox Cloud, a Lakota Sioux and former child captive who knows English. They pose as bounty hunters wearing clever disguises from Anthony's makeup kit. Another important yet unseen character is Anthony's deceased wife, Mary, who inspires his death wish. Dressed in black for the final scene, will Anthony get his death wish as in Hamlet's tragedy? Can this adventure end well?

For those seeking a Western with plenty of action and adventure, bodies fall from gunfire as rapidly as metal paddles downed in a cowboy shooting gallery in this book. However, this is not your average cowboy tale—not with the hero’s classy remarks those of a Shakespearean actor rather than a simple cowpoke. For example, we see Anthony “raising himself slowly amidst the gun smoke... throughout the saloon... had an eerie feeling that, not unlike the ghost of Hamlet’s father, he was witnessing many ghosts who were shocked by death...” The author’s work defies quick classification. Although Prevosto wrote this first book as a Western novel, it also handles contemporary issues, such as grieving for a spouse, a low attitude toward women, and dislike of Indians by those living in the American West. The author plans to tap into the UK market. Fans of tales of the Old West may find this book trips their triggers.
"Something happens on about every page, and I became intrigued on the first page. I had a hard time putting the book down. There is no reason to give this less than 4 out of 4 stars."
Sometimes we don't know what we will get from a decision until the consequences stare us in the face. Nina's Salvation for Joey is a fictional book about hope and the possibility of change with the required effort. Steven Prevosto spins a strong message using the story of Joey on his path to salvation.

Joey Maks, a young adult of 21, was coming out from a traumatic childhood and drug withdrawal problem. Things started falling apart in his life — from his band, which he sacrificed to go to college, to the break up with the love of his life at a crucial time (she left him). He always knew he could be at peace in one place — his grandma's place. Heading there to seek solace from his demons, what would he find in the quiet city of Baltimore in 1974?

The plot is relatively straightforward. The book is also a short read. It keeps you in the present while providing the necessary backstory to understand Joey's personality. The humor is lighthearted and cynical. Joey is the primary source of humor, and it fits him and what he has been through.

A heartwarming observation was the relationship between Joey and Nina, his grandma. Everyone who enjoyed a good relationship with their grandparents would relate to it. It brought back those childhood memories of an overfilled stomach and the warmth of their presence. She was a major linchpin in the story, trying to get Joey out of despair. Coincidentally, she needed him as much as he needed her. Old age and its attributes were taking their toll; she didn't want to be alone at those times. I enjoyed their mutually beneficial relationship.

Sexism was showcased as seen during the performance of Pebbles, a band. It was pretty accurate as a situation of that period, where ladies in a band would rather be seen dancing in a skirt by the men. Though not mainstream in our day and age, it could still be seen in various subtle forms. A hilarious encounter happened when Joey had to dress like a girl. You should read to know why.
The book had two messages I resonated with — the loneliness of old age and the flexibility of human behavior. I enjoyed the author's writing style and the absence of fillers. The editing was good, with only a few errors, making for a smooth read. There was nothing to dislike. Therefore, I would rate Nina's Salvation for Joey 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend it to teens and young adults; they would see a part of themselves in Joey, as I did.
Nina’s Salvation for Joey is an incredible and poignant book that stands out amongst its genre and one that captivated me from start to finish with ease! Nina’s Salvation for Joey was a phenomenal and moving read and an incredibly memorable one.

It is a beautiful, captivating, and memorable novel that will take the reader back in time to 1974 and will follow the protagonist of the novel, twenty-one-year-old Joey Maks’, as his life starts to unravel after his rock band falls apart and the love of his life leaves him. Joey, depressed and seeking salvation, hops on a bus to his Grandmother Nina’s house where he hopes to put the broken pieces of his life back together and this book lovers is the short premise of the incredible Nina’s Salvation for Joey!

Nina’s Salvation for Joey is a book that deals with many poignant themes as well as uplifting themes and all of these topics are weaved perfectly together, and the outcome is a beautiful piece of literature that will stay prominent in readers’ minds for many weeks upon completion. Prevosto knows how to flawlessly transport his reader into the story as well as to the many places the reader is taken to and because his descriptions are glorious they will correctly paint a picture of the places the reader travels to in the reader’s mind which in turn keeps the reader captivated!

As I think Nina's Salvation for Joey is a captivating and poignant novel with a moving and memorable plot, I have no choice but to award it a dazzling five stars because it deserves this!

About Author ----

Teacher | Writer

I am an author writing everyday. I had my first book, The Defending Guns, a western, published by World Castle Publishers in December, 2019.
Book Summery: In 1878 Anthony Augustus Peters was not only skilled in using a gun, he was a rising star in New York City as a very popular Shakespearean actor. However, he had a death wish. And he would die nobly by defending people against violent outlaws populating the booming towns out West where he was taking his theatre company to perform for them.

I was born in Baltimore City, Maryland, and when I turned 12 years old, having failed the sixth grade, my family moved to Ellicott City, Maryland. I became close to my cousin, Joe Perry, who had a significant influence on helping me to stay focused in school and I was on the Dean’s List through high school. I became interested in reading and started writing more on answering my essay questions.

Playing the drums. Once I entered high school, school work absorbed all of my time.

When I went to New York to study acting, the second summer I was there, I couldn’t get an audition at this particular theatre. So, I called them to set-up an appointment to audition, and the secretary said their schedule was full. I said, “Please, give me a chance.” The secretary said, “No.” I said, “I am a very good actor. What can I do to get an audition?” She said, “You can write your own play and be the star,” then hung-up.Well, after that phone call, my writing career began. I wrote a one act play that my friend, Ken Fitch, who was an actor and also a director, liked, and wanted to direct. He said that he had the perfect actress to play the part. Her name was Mary Eileen McDonnell. I watched her audition for it, she liked it, and we were going to start rehearsals in a week. In that time, she was offered to play the character of Shelly in the play ‘Buried Child’ by Sam Shepard that was to premiere in New York in October at the Theater for the New City. Afterwards, she became the star opposite Kevin Costner in the movie Dances with Wolves.

I enjoy reading Historical Fiction and Young Adult literature.

My first novel was a Western. I enjoyed writing a Western from the point of view of an actor who was very skilled with a gun. Believing he was responsible for his wife’s death, he had a death wish and wanted to take his acting company out West in 1878 to the popular growing towns out there to perform. And knowing the towns had problems with violent outlaws, he wanted to die nobly defending the innocent civilians out there instead of drinking himself to death. My second novel was a coming of age Young Adult. And so is my third. So, I believe my genre of preference is going to be YA.

I only had the minor challenge of remembering some of the businesses that were in the neighborhood. I also researched online some of the popular bands and musicians of the period. For Nina’s friends and neighbors, I used people that I had already known and who were my relatives.

Before I became a writer, I imagined my future being an actor. After studying very hard in high school, I went to UMBC in Baltimore County, Maryland. I was taking acting courses and after hanging out with three other guys who loved acting, we decided to drop out of college, find jobs to save money, then move to New York City. Unfortunately, after spending ten years in New York, I realized that not being a singer or a dancer, I wasn’t going to be successful. I came home and finished college with a degree in Education, got my masters, and while seeking a job began writing short stories and eventually wrote my first novel, The Defending Guns, a Western.

I always loved passionate rock n’ roll music, but never wanted to put the time into learning how to play an instrument. While studying acting in New York, I became friends with Billy who was Italian and had mafia friends. When I was desperately looking for work, he used his mafia connections to get me a bartending job in an upscale Italian bar and restaurant in a rich section of mid-town Manhattan. I used the lively stories of musicians, drugs, and violence that I heard there and wrote them in a notebook. Over the years I kept rewriting one particular story from those notes. It was a coming-of-age novel about a young musician learning from his mistakes and nurtured by his grandmother’s love and support not to give up playing his music.

I watch and study the shapes of the clouds during the sunrise, the day, the sunset, and during a full moon. And I try to figure out what animals they might be, or interpret what they might portend for mankind on Earth.

I felt like a heavy burden was lifted from my self-doubt because someone I barely knew said that she could relate to the internal struggles of my main character, Joey, and of the girl he met when he came back home to heal while living with his grandmother.

I felt like I had achieved something so special within my family and amongst my peers! My creative dream comes true! Shortly, however, the need to advertise my book loomed before me. I had to spend money and invest time into researching how to do it. I knew it was necessary, but working all day made me feel guilty that I wasn’t devoting time to writing.

My grandmother, Nina Hickman, influenced me as an author because she would unselfishly sacrifice her free time to not only help her family, but also the poor, needy, and the handicapped in her neighborhood. She is a main character in my book, Nina’s Salvation for Joey, who is instrumental in helping Joey realize how important his life is and not to take it for granted.I feel inspired every time I read a different author’s book. I learn something new, I get an idea, and I meet a variety of amazing characters with unique personalities and thoughts living in strange situations that not only teach me about writing but supply me with ideas on what to write about in the future.

Since I work everyday and make dinner when I come home, I write around 500 words a have to re-write 50 to 60 percent of it before I can begin on the next 500 words. Writing for me is ‘re-writing’ !

Currently, I am not working on a new book. I’ve decided to write some short stories on various themes so as to hopefully generate an idea for my a new novel.

My experience of being associated with AllAuthor has been very enlightening. They not only help to advertise your book in imaginative ways on social media, they also make it possible for an author to meet other authors who write in other genres. More importantly, AllAuthor enables you to contact these authors to share ideas and talk about writing and share tips on publishers, publishing, and other ways of advertising your novel.
